Brett Boretti Signs Contract Extension

Winningest coach in Lions’ history inks a long-term extension to stay in Morningside Heights
NEW YORK — Columbia University has signed head baseball coach Brett Boretti to a long-term contract extension, Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Peter Pilling announced on July 20.
Boretti has spent nearly two decades building Columbia into one of the Ivy League's premier baseball programs. He is the winningest coach in school history and has led the Lions to eight Ivy League championships, multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and sustained success at both the conference and national levels.
"Brett's impact extends far beyond success on the field," Pilling said. "His teams compete for championships, our student-athletes excel academically, and the baseball alumni remain deeply connected to the program. He is an outstanding coach, mentor and leader, and we are excited to have him continue guiding Columbia baseball for years to come."
He enters the 2027 season with 421 victories, having led Columbia for 21 seasons, and has 537 for his career. Under his leadership, Columbia has posted a 240-146-1 record (.622 winning percentage) in Ivy League play, more than any other program in the conference. The Lions have reached a pair of NCAA Regional Championship rounds in 2015 and 2022 and have won 30 or more games on three occasions (2015, 2022, 2025).

"Columbia has been home for my family and me, and I feel fortunate to work with some of the best student-athletes in the country. With the tremendous support of our alumni and the knowledge and work ethic of the best assistant coaches and support staff, we have built something that everyone associated with this program can be proud of, and I am excited to keep working toward bringing more championships to Columbia."
His teams have earned a reputation for competing against some of the nation's top programs while consistently contending for Ivy League titles. During his tenure, Columbia has produced All-Americans, Academic All-Americans and conference award winners, and 19 players have gone on to play in MLB organizations, with 13 of them being drafted.
The Lions continued that success in 2026, reaching the Ivy League Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. Columbia also earned one of the program's biggest non-conference victories with a win over nationally ranked West Virginia, which went on to reach the College World Series.
