NEW YORK - After spending spring break down in the Carolinas, the Columbia Softball Team will return to New York City this weekend as it gets set to host the Inaugural Columbia Classic on March 25-26.
The Lions will welcome Canisius College and Fairleigh Dickinson University to the Columbia Softball Stadium this weekend for six games over the two-day event.
LONGEST GAME IN DIVISION ONE
Columbia found itself in the record books last weekend as it battled with UNC Wilmington in a 15-inning affair in game two of a doubleheader to round out the three-game series, marking the longest game in terms of innings played in NCAA Division I this season.
ALL ABOUT HEART
Kayla Maloney showed what it means to give it everything you have in the doubleheader with UNC WIlmington, making a pair of great catches in centerfield in game one before taking the circle for game two where she pitched all 14.2 innings while throwing 224 pitches.
TALKING ABOUT TROUTT
Taylor Troutt has led the Columbia offense this season with a .373 batting average while posting up four doubles and a team-leading four home runs and 13 RBI for a .686 slugging percentage over the first 18 games of the seaosn.
MEET METZGER
First-year Reilly Metzger has already made a big impact for the Lions this season, batting .333 with a pair of doubles and two triples while knocking in a pair of runs. The lefty slapper is also the biggest threat on the bases for the Lions, going 6-for-8 in stolen bases to take half of the team's 12 stolen bags this year. After already being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week earlier this year, Metzger currently ranks 36th in the nation in triples per game (0.11) and 50th in hit-by-pitch per game (0.28).
