GAME ONE RECAP: Princeton 8, Columbia 1
After stranding runners on base over the first two innings, it was Princeton who jumped out to the early 4-0 lead behind a RBI single and a three-run home run by Skye Jerpbak in the top of the third.
While Jordan Townsend was able to rip a double down the third-base line in the bottom of the fourth, the Lions were unable to plate her before Princeton could to add two more runs on a two-run shot to left-center by Kaylee Grant in the fifth to make it a 6-0 ball game.
Columbia started to threaten in the bottom of the fifth as Reilly Metzger got things going with a two-out single before back-to-back walks loaded the bases, forcing a Princeton pitching change. Unfortunately the Tigers were able to get out of the jam unscathed with a fielder's choice to send it to the sixth with Princeton on top, 6-0.
That momentum continued for the Tigers as Marissa Reynolds hit a solo shot to right-center to extend the Tigers' lead to 7-0.
Thanks to a Princeton error to put a runner on, the Lions were able to take advantage of the mistake as Krystin Wong sent a broken-bat, two-out RBI single through the left side to put Columbia on the board.
Unfortunately the Tigers responded back with another run of their own in the top of the seventh to extend back out to an 8-1 lead.
While Taylor Troutt and Jordan Townsend were able to team up for back-to-back singles, the Lions were unable to plate a run in the bottom of the seventh as Princeton secured an 8-1 victory.
Shanna Christian (3-9) earned the win after throwing 4.2 innings of scoreless work, allowing only three hits while striking out five. Maura Lynch (1-1) took the loss after throwing all seven innings for the Lions, giving up eight runs on 12 hits while striking out a batter.
Krystin Wong led the Lions after going 2-for-3 with a RBI while Townsend also picked up a pair of hits in the opening game.
GAME TWO RECAP: Princeton 8, Columbia 2
Princeton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after back-to-back singles to open the game, but senior Tessa Kroll was able to settle down with a strikeout and a liner to short to end the innings and strand a pair on base.
Despite a pair of strikeouts by Kroll in the top of the fourth, the Tigers were able to put across another run to take a 2-0 lead before the senior righty could work a pop fly to end the inning.
The Columbia offense woke up in the bottom half of the frame, however, as Reilly Metzger led off the inning with a triple down the left-field line before Maddie Gott could send her home on a RBI single to left to cut the Princeton lead to 2-1.
Still trailing by a run in the bottom of the fifth, rookie Krystin Wong was able to tie the game with one swing as she blasted a solo shot over the left-field wall to make it a 2-2 game.
The Tigers responded back in the top of the sixth with three runs on a sac fly, suicide squeeze and a RBI double, giving Princeton a 5-2 advantage.
Unfortunately with the help of a three-run shot to straight-away center by Skye Jerpbak in the top of the seventh, the Tigers were able to go on and seal an 8-2 victory.
Claire Klausner (6-5) earned the win after allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out six. Tessa Kroll (4-15) took the loss after giving up eight runs on 10 hits while striking out five.
Kerry Cook and Reilly Metzger each picked up a pair of hits in game two for the Lions while Maddie Gott and Krystin Wong drove in the only two runs of the game for Columbia.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, April 27, as they host Rider in the final non-conference doubleheader of the year starting at 3 p.m.
