Softball Rounds Out Non-Conference Schedule With Wednesday Matchup Against Rider

The Columbia softball team (12-27, 4-8 Ivy) will round out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Wednesday afternoon as they welcome Rider to the Columbia Softball Stadium for a single game starting at 3 p.m.
TALKING ABOUT TROUTT
Taylor Troutt has led the Columbia offense this season, batting .360 (45-for-125) with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 34 RBI for a .664 slugging percentage and .452 on-base percentage. The sophomore captain also leads the team with eight multi-RBI games this year and successfully advances runners 51.2 percent (44-for-86) of the time.
METZGER MAKES IT HAPPEN
Rookie Reilly Metzger has been a key factor for the Lions this year, leading the team with 12 sacrifice bunts and nine stolen bases while adding three doubles, three triples, seven walks and five RBI.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia is 23-15-0 all-time against Rider in a series dating back to 2001. Last year, the Lions split with the Broncs with Columbia taking a 3-2 victory in eight innings of game one before Rider bounced back with a 9-3 win to force the split.
A QUICK LOOK AT RIDER
Rider heads into the week with a 5-34 overall record, including a 2-10 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and will take on Saint Peter's in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26, prior to heading to New York City to take on the Lions. The offensive threat for the Broncs this year has been Kim Valdes who heads into the week with a .319 batting average after hitting seven doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI while Dana Sensi has led the team with 12 doubles and 18 RBI. Rider has worked this season with a duo of starters in the circle between Kaitlyn Kallert (2-14, 6.42 ERA, 80.2 IP, 19 K) and Megan Ailand (1-14, 6.46 ERA, 112.2 IP, 18 K).
ON DECK
The Lions will round out the 2016 season this weekend as they play Penn in a home-and-home on April 29-30. Prior to Saturday's home doubleheader, the Lions will honor the team's lone senior, Tessa Kroll, in their annual Senior Day Ceremony.
