The Columbia women’s soccer team readies for a pair of matches this weekend, first with a trip to Sacred heart on Friday, before hosting Rider on Sunday.
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's soccer team readies for a pair of matches this weekend, first with a trip to Sacred heart on Friday, before hosting Rider on Sunday.
The Lions enter the weekend at 2-1-1, with three of the first four results coming on the road. Sacred Heart is winless so far this season at 0-5, while Rider matches Columbia's record so far, but has a game with No. 23 Princeton on Thursday.
STRONG START
Through four contests in 2018, Columbia has found the back of the net in every match, posting a 2-1-1 mark.
Senior Emma Anderson leads the team in points (five) and goals (two), with five other Lions contributing to the scoring at one goal each. Emily Koe and Maddie Temares are tied for the team lead with one game-winner each, coming in the Fordham and Colorado College matches.
In net, Sophie Whitehouse has started all four matches, saving 24 shots while allowing four goals against.
Columbia most recently returned from a trip to Colorado, where the Lions split a pair of matches. At Colorado College on Friday, Aug. 31, the Lions posted a 2-1 victory, before dropping a match at Denver by the same score.

Sacred Heart has not scored a goal since the first match of the season, a 3-2 loss to Iona. Since then, the Pioneers have dropped matches at Temple (2-0), at St. John's (3-0), at Brown (1-0), and against UMass Lowell (3-0).
Christina Palanza and Maranda Gibbons lead the team with one goal each, while Caitlyn Buckley and Emily Rosso have an assist. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Sambuco has played in all five contests, stopping 32 shots while allowing 12 goals.
