Stage Set for Ivy League Playoff Series at Harvard

The Lions and Crimson meet up in the best-of-three series with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Columbia baseball team returns to the Ivy League Playoff Series for the eighth time when it faces Harvard from May 18-19. The best-of-three series will begin with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a doubleheader, if necessary, Sunday at 12 p.m. The winner will receive the Ancient Eight's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
LEADING OFF
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions clinched their second consecutive ILPS berth with a 4-0 win at Penn in the final game of the regular season May 4. Columbia was the first team to shutout the Quakers, who averaged 8.6 runs per game - good for No. 3 in the NCAA. The Lions dropped its final two Ivy League series, going 2-4 in its last six games against Harvard and Penn.
HARVARD'S STATUS
The Crimson secured its first Ivy League title since 2005, taking 2-of-3 at Brown to wrap up the regular season.
Harvard boasts two of the best hitters in the conference in Patrick McColl and Jake Suddleson. McColl, the senior first baseman, is hitting .403 with 11 homers, 40 RBI and 15 doubles. Suddleson checks in at .386 with 11 dingers, 53 RBI.
Out of the bullpen, Kieran Shaw has recorded 13 saves - good for No. 5 in the NCAA. Enzo Stefanoni is coming off Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out 10 over 5.0 innings in two appearances against the Bears. Left-hander Harrison Stovern is another reliable arm, with a 4.05 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Columbia is 68-87-1 all-time against Harvard, but have won 12 of the last 16 meetings dating back to 2013.
ILPS HISTORY
Columbia owns an 11-6 Ivy League Playoff Series mark, with five (2008, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018) series wins. Columbia participated in the first-ever ILCS in 1993, with Yale sweeping the series. This is the Lions first time playing an opponent other than Yale or Dartmouth in the ILPS. Last year's win over Yale marked the first time a road team proved victorious in the ILPS since 2010 and the first to do so via a series sweep since 2006. Additionally, every player that head coach Brett Boretti has recruited and has played three seasons for the Lions has had an opportunity to play in at least one ILPS.
