Columbia Set for Sunday Showdown at Hofstra

The Lions visit Hofstra on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup
NEW YORK — The Columbia women's soccer team will continue its non-conference schedule Sunday, traveling to face nearby Hofstra at 1 p.m. ET.

Entering Sunday's matchup, the Lions own a 3-1-1 overall record on the seasons having won three-straight contests. Most recently, Columbia earned a 2-1 triumph over Saint Joseph's on Thursday evening by way of goals from sophomore forward Mallaika Tomar and junior midfielder Cayla Davis. Both were their second of the season.
Through five games, five different Lions have scored goals while eight different players have dished out an assist. Davis currently leads Columbia with five points on the year, followed by senior midfielder Maddie Temares and Tomar who each have four. First-year goalkeeper Liz Matei has played every minute in goal, recording 22 saves with a 1.38 goals against average.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
The Pride are 4-3 overall on the 2019 campaign, coming off back-to-back wins over Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson. Both were 2-1 victories, but the win over the Seawolves came in double overtime when sophomore midfielder Miri Taylor scored the game-winner in the 104th minute.
Junior midfielder Lucy Porter leads Hofstra's offense this year with 17 points behind eight goals and one assist. First-year goalie Skylar Kuzmich has played the majority of time between the sticks, making 17 saves with a 1.82 goals against average.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Columbia trails in the all-time series between the two programs 4-8-2. Last season, Hofstra claimed a 2-0 win in New York City.
ON DECK
For the first time this season, the Lions will host back-to-back home games in the coming week, first welcoming in NJIT on Friday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. before facing off against Drexel on Sunday at 2 p.m.
