Columbia Welcomes Harvard on Senior Day

Kayla Lee, Colette Marciano, Jessica Schildkraut, and Mallaika Tomar to be honored before kickoff.
NEW YORK -- The Columbia women's soccer team will welcome Harvard in the 2021 season finale, Saturday at 5:00 P.M.. The contest, which will serve as Columbia's Senior Day Celebration, will kick off at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium following a Senior Recognition ceremony.

Below are five notes to keep in mind ahead of kickoff.
#1 | SEASON FINALE
The Lions have gone 9-5-1 this season including a 3-3 record in Ivy League Play. For the eighth consecutive season, Columbia boasts a winning record at home (5-2-1). Sophomore Nata Ramirez leads the team in goals (9), assists (4), and total points (22) followed by junior Ally Clark with five goals and four assists for 14 points. Ramirez's 22 points tie her for first in the Ivy League while her goals rank second.
On the other end of the field, sophomore goalkeeper Paige Nurkin boasts the third lowest goals against average in the League (0.86 gaa) and the second highest save percentage (0.859).
#2 | SENIOR SATURDAY
Saturday will honor Columbia's four seniors, Kayla Lee, Colette Marciano, Mallaika Tomar, and Jessica Schildkraut. This class has gone 26-15-6 overall while holding a 10-7-3 Ivy League record.

#3 | IN GOOD HANDS
Twenty Lions made their first appearances in Columbia blue this season as a number of underclassmen became fixtures in the starting lineup as well as strong legs off the bench. The return of such an experienced underclass will benefit the program for seasons to come. The first career appearances for this season's extra large rookie class are as follows:

Eight Lions have been named to the Ivy League's Weekly Honor Roll, including Nata Ramirez and Paige Nurkin who repeated as honorees this week.

#5 | THE OPPONENT
Harvard's season will also draw to a close on Saturday as seniors Samantha Schmitz, Maria DiMartinis, Lauren Raimondo, Trinity Thomas, Murphy Agnew, Taylor Nielsen, Jillian Wachira conclude their careers for the Crimson. This season, Harvard has gone an impressive 11-2-1 including a 4-2 conference record. The Crimson's only losses of the season have come at the hands of fellow leaguers No. 22 Brown and No. 23 Princeton. Both results were determined by one goal (0-1).
Junior Angela Caloia paces the team in goals (10) and points (22) while rookie Hannah Bebar has dished out a team-topping 10 assists with five goals of her own for 20 points.
In net, junior Hannah Gardner has made 11 starts owning a 0.28 goals against average and 0.895 goals against average. Sophomore keeper Anna Karpenko has also seen significant time in goal, making 12 appearances with three starts.
Columbia and Harvard last met on Nov. 9, 2019, battling to a 1-1 draw. The last contest either team played prior to the pandemic had also served as the class of 2019's Senior Day.
