Women’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw at Cornell

Shira Cohen scored for the Lions in the second half to force the draw
ITHACA, N.Y. – Columbia hit the road for the first time during Ivy League play this season and came away with a 1-1 draw at Cornell on Wednesday afternoon at Berman Field. The Lions move to 7-2-2 overall this season with a 1-1-1 mark in Ivy League play.
Cornell struck first in the 22nd minute as Laken Gallman found the net. Reagan Pauwels was credited with the assists as she evaded a Columbia defender to pass the ball off to Gallman, who fired a left-footed shot that found the top left corner of the goal.
The Big Red took the 1-0 lead heading into the break and held the lead almost 10 minutes into the second half. Senior forward Shira Cohen tied the game in the 54th minute as she took control of a loose ball and used a sliding shot to find the net.
Columbia and Cornell battled down the stretch, but a neither side could convert any goals. The Lions and Big Red each took 16 shots in the contest. Columbia tallied nine shots on goal compared to Cornell's three.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Nurkin played all 90 minutes in the net as she tallied two saves in the draw.
