Goalkeeper Paige Nurkin registers four saves in the contest
NEW YORK – Columbia and San Francisco battled to the final whistle and ended in a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at USF's Negoesco Stadium. Columbia drew its first tie of the season to move to 2-1-1 overall.
The Dons got to work quickly Sunday afternoon as Allison Kamansky fired a shot on goal in the fourth minute that was saved by Columbia goalkeeper Paige Nurkin.
A few minutes later, senior forward Madi Pilla fired a shot on goal in the 12th minute that was saved by USF goalkeeper Kira Ybarra. Senior midfielder Grace Hurren joined in on the action with an off-target shot 38 seconds after Pilla's shot on goal.
The Lions and Dons continued to fire shots through the end of the first half and the second half, but neither team could convert at the goal. Columbia outshot USF, 9-7 in total shots and 5-4 in shots on goal.
Sophomore midfielder Maia Tabion registered two shots on goal in the contest. First-year defender Samantha Weiss, Pilla and Hurren each recorded on shot on goal.
Nurkin played all 90 minutes in the goal and totaled four saves to prevent the Dons from getting on the scoreboard.
