The Lions lose their first home contest of the season Saturday
NEW YORK – Harvard found the net twice in the first 15 minutes to hand the Columbia women's soccer team its first home loss of the season, 2-0, Saturday evening at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
Columbia (7-2-1) entered the game with a six-game shutout streak, allowing just one goal through nine games. The streak came to an end as Harvard went to work quickly with goals in the seventh and 13th minutes to an early 2-0 lead that would hold until the final horn.
Senior Ava Lung scored the first goal of the evening for Harvard in the seventh minute. Senior defender Hunter Smith sent a cross in from the outside of the field that midfielder Hanna Bebar flicked off to Lung before she fired it just inside the post to score. Bebar then found the net in the 13th minute on assists from Josefine Hasbo and Lung.
Harvard outshot Columbia, 13-6 in the game as the Lions were held to just two shots on goal. Senior midfielder Kat Jordan and junior forward Claire Pinnie each registered one shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Paige Nurkin played all 90 minutes and tallied three saves.
