Baseball Comes Up Short at No. 4 Florida on Saturday, 7-3

Hage slugs three-run homer in ninth; Leon goes five strong innings
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Columbia baseball dropped the middle game of a three-game set to No. 4 Florida, 7-3, on Saturday night at Condron Family Ballpark.
Lions starting pitcher Andy Leon tossed five quality innings, allowing one run on just two hits. The junior righty tallied four strikeouts in his season debut. Cole Hage got Columbia (0-2) on the board in the ninth inning with a three-run home run to right field.
The Gators (4-1) broke open a 7-0 lead in the home eighth following a six-spot in the inning on three hits. Ty Evans belted a two-run home run in the frame. Two-way preseason All-American Jac Caglianone was 4-4 on the night for the Gators.
James Vaughn relieved Leon and added two scoreless innings for the Lions in the sixth and seventh innings. Vaughn threw 37 pitches and 21 for strikes.
Cole Fellows and Owen Estabrook each added two hits, including the first of Estabrook's career. Estabrook picked up his first career knock on a booming double to the left-center gap.
Florida's starter Liam Peterson struck out six over four innings and consistently threw 94-97 mph. Columbia and Florida each clubbed seven hits on Saturday.
The Lions are back in action for the series finale with the Gators on Sunday at 11 a.m.
