Baseball Blanked by No. 11 East Carolina on Saturday

Hage records both hits for Lions on the day
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Columbia baseball was shutout in the second game of its three-game series against No. 11 East Carolina, 8-0, from Lewis Field at Clark LeClair Stadium on Saturday.
The Columbia offense was held quiet throughout the game, recording only two hits. Cole Hage led the Columbia offense, recording the only two hits that included a double in the ninth inning.
Zach Root recorded the win for East Carolina (13-4), throwing six shutout innings while striking out eight batters and only allowing one hit. The Pirates' left hander moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
Joe Sheets took the loss for Columbia (3-10) Saturday afternoon, moving to 0-3 on the season. The Lions' right hander worked 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
East Carolina scored a run in back-to-back innings in the third and fourth, taking a 2-0 lead that would stand until the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Dixon Williams blasted a two-run home run to right to extend the Pirate lead to four. East Carolina went on to score two more runs in each of the two next innings. A two-run home run to center field by Carter Cunningham capped the Pirate scoring in the home eighth.
Columbia wraps up its spring break trip on Sunday against the Pirates at 11:30 a.m.
