Softball Hosts Princeton in Ivy League Opener

The teams will play a doubleheader Friday and the series finale Sunday
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team will play its first home game of the season Friday afternoon when the Lions host Princeton for the first Ivy League series of the season at the Columbia Softball Stadium.
Due to the weather forecast for Saturday, Columbia and Princeton will play a doubleheader Friday starting at 12:30 p.m. The series will conclude with a single game Sunday also at 12:30 p.m.
This weekend's games between the Lions (4-13) and Tigers (9-7) can be watched live on ESPN+ or followed via live stats.

LAST TIME OUT
Columbia is looking to bounce back after losing all five games last weekend at the John Cropp Classic hosted by Kentucky. The Lions lost to Ohio State, South Dakota State and No. 23 Kentucky in the event.
First-year Payton Shimansky led the Lions at the plate last weekend with three hits. Savanna Messner recorded two hits during the weekend, coming in the form of a double and a three-run home run.
STAT LEADERS
Jaden Hill leads the Columbia offense with 16 hits so far this season and a .314 batting average. She has launched two home runs this season, which is tied for the most on the team with Sarah Mikami.
Eleni Katsivalis and Shimansky join Hill as the other Lions batting over .300 for the season. Katsivalis owns 13 hits and four total RBI. Shimansky has registered 11 hits in her rookie campaign.
Raquel Reyes is 3-6 in the circle this season with a 7.25 ERA. She has earned eight starts and appeared in 10 total games. Reyes has totaled 14 strikeouts so far.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton begins the Ivy League slate with a 9-7 overall mark. The Tigers started the season 5-0 for the first time in program history and are now riding a four-game win streak into this weekend.
Princeton's Brielle Wright is tied for fourth in the nation with four saves and is ninth in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio. She is also ranked 12th nationally in walks allowed per seven innings at 0.75.
Lauren Sablone leads the team with a .340 batting average. Sonia Zhang is also batting over .300. Cassidy Shaw (4-5, 4.81 ERA) and Meghan Harrington (3-2, 5.12 ERA) lead the Tigers in innings pitched.
THE SERIES
Princeton has won seven of the last eight meetings against Columbia. The Lions last defeated Princeton, 3-1 in the first game of last year's Ivy League Tournament. Overall, Princeton owns a 50-20 advantage in the series. The last time Columbia defeated Princeton in a series was 2019 when the Lions won two out of three games on the road at Princeton.
