Softball Meets Monmouth in Midweek Matchup

First pitch Wednesday is set for 4 p.m.
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team is back in action with a midweek game against Monmouth on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Columbia Softball Stadium.

STRONG START IN THE IVY LEAGUE
Columbia closed out its first Ivy League series of the season with back-to-back wins over Princeton to win the series. The won in dramatic fashion, 4-3, in the series finale Sunday on a walk-off wild pitch. The win marked the first time since 2019 Columbia has earned a series win over Princeton.
STAT LEADERS
First-year Payton Shimansky leads the team at the plate with a .348 batting average. Shimansky has totaled 16 hits this season with six RBI and two runs. Jaden Hill joins Shimansky as the only other Lion batting over .300. Hill is hitting .339 with 21 hits. Hill is credited with a double, triple, two home runs and four RBI so far this season.
Raquel Reyes owns the best ERA on the pitching staff at 6.55. She has a 3-7 record with 10 starts and 12 total appearances. Reyes has tallied 18 strikeouts this season. Sarah Mikami had an impressive weekend in the circle against Princeton, earning her first two wins of the season. Mikami has 13 strikeouts for the season.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
Monmouth is 12-18 overall this season after defeating Hofstra in a series last weekend. The Hawks have three players batting over .300 this season. Dani Dabroski leads the squad with a .344 average. Savannah Simons leads the in hits with 32 so far.
Billie Kerwood has the best ERA on the team at 3.65 with an 8-8 record and 93 total strikeouts. Olivia Lewis has a 4.92 ERA and Ana Rodriguez owns a 5.16 ERA.
THE SERIES
Columbia leads the series against Monmouth, 12-11-1 overall. The teams last met last season when Monmouth earned a 5-3 win. The Lions last defeated Monmouth in 2022 with a 3-0 win.
