INDIANAPOLIS — Columbia baseball infielder
Jack Cooper has been named National Player of the Week following a dominant weekend against Marist, the NCAA announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cooper was 9-for-12 (.750 BA) over the weekend with four home runs, seven runs scored, 15 RBIs, and 22 total bases in the Lions' three-game sweep of Marist. For the week nationally, he ranked first in RBIs, second in batting average and slugging percentage, tied for third in home runs, tied for fourth in total bases, and sixth in on-base percentage.
Cooper was also tabbed Ivy League Player of the Week, D1Baseball Player of the Week, and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Player of the Week. He was named to Baseball America's NCAA Week 3 Standouts list as well.
Cooper set a program record for RBIs in a single game on Friday with eight and is one of four Ivy League players to ever have that many in a game. Cooper was 4-for-4 in Friday's home opener with three extra-base hits.
The Edwardsville, Illinois native posted a multi-home run performance on Friday and in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. In the series finale, Cooper was 3-for-5 and drove in seven runs. Following the weekend, Cooper is slashing .455/.520/1.045 over six games this season.
The Lions will open up a five-game stretch on the West Coast against UC Irvine on Friday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. ET.
