Softball Hosts Yale for Final Home Ivy League Series

The Lions will celebrate senior day before Sunday’s game
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team returns home to the Columbia Softball Stadium to host Yale for the final home Ivy League series of the season this weekend. The Lions and Bulldogs will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. before finishing the series with a 12:30 p.m. game Sunday.
All three games this weekend between Columbia (14-20, 8-7 Ivy) and Yale (18-23, 12-6 Ivy) will be streamed live on ESPN+. Fans can also follow along via live stats.

THE IVY LEAGUE SLATE
Columbia is looking to rebound at home this weekend after losing a road series against Brown last weekend. The Lions got the series started with a 4-1 win before the Bears stormed back to win the final two games. Columbia now sits at 8-7 in Ivy League play and is tied with Dartmouth for the fourth-place spot in the league standings. Columbia will travel to face Dartmouth in the final series of the regular season in what could decide who earns the final spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
STAT LEADERS
Cami Neal leads the Lions at the plate in almost every category as she owns 37 hits for a .359 batting average this season. Neal has hit nine home runs to go along with seven doubles, 26 RBI, 71 total bases and a .689 slugging percentage. Jaden Hill, Maddie Souza and Payton Shimansky join Neal as the only Columbia batters hitting over .300 this season.
Raquel Reyes has seen the most action in the circle for the Lions with 16 starts and 21 appearances this season. Reyes holds a 5.33 ERA with a 6-9 record.
RECORD WATCH
Neal is currently in the hunt for three single season program records. Her current .689 slugging percentage is the third-best in a single season in program history. She also has nine home runs for the season, which is tied for fourth most. Her .359 batting average is just outside the top five in single season program history. In career records, Neal ranks fourth in slugging percentage, eighth in home runs and seventh in batting average.
Hill ranks second in career stolen bases and is just four away from the program record of 31 set by Emily Caruthers. Hill is tied for sixth in career slugging percentage at .455 and is just outside the top eight for career home runs with 10.
SCOUTING YALE
Yale will be looking to bounce back this weekend after getting swept at home by Princeton last weekend. The Bulldogs are led at the plate by Sophie Woodridge, who is batting .373 with 31 hits, 11 doubles, six home runs and 29 RBI this season. Willa Ferrer, Carolyn Skotz and Libby Peoples are also batting over .300.
The Bulldogs rely heavily on Emma Taylor in the circle. She has started 23 games and made 29 total appearances this season. Taylor holds a 3.20 ERA with an 11-7 record and 83 total strikeouts.
THE SERIES
Yale leads the all-time series, 26-21. The Bulldogs won two out of three games in the series last season. Yale also took two of three games in its last visit to New York City in 2022. Columbia earned its last series victory against Yale on the road in 2019.

The Lions will celebrate senior day before the 12:30 p.m. first pitch on Sunday at approximately 12:05 p.m. Seniors Raquel Reyes, Maddy Rifenberick and Jaden Hill will be recognized on the field with their family and friends.
