Softball Drops Series Finale to Yale

The Lions host Manhattan Tuesday afternoon for the home finale
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team fell to Yale, 11-2, in five innings Sunday afternoon at the Columbia Softball Stadium to finish off the weekend series.
Columbia drops to 15-22 overall this season with a 9-9 mark in Ivy League action. The Lions travel to Dartmouth next weekend and will have to sweep the series for a chance to compete in the Ivy League Tournament.
Yale came out swinging Sunday with four straight hits and back-to-back doubles that helped propel the Bulldogs to five runs in the top of first inning. Yale added another five-spot in the fourth inning with a string of four straight walks drawn at the plate.
The Lions scored their first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning. Maddie Souza hit a sac fly to center field that scored Liv Madkins. Columbia added another run in the fifth when Eleni Katsivalis hit an RBI base hit up the middle that scored Mandy Pelatowski.
Raquel Reyes (7-10) earned the start and was charged with the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits in the first inning. Charlotte Laidler came in and worked 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on four hits. Lily McCord finished off the final 1.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits.

Columbia is back on its home field for the final time this season as the Lions host Manhattan. First pitch from the Columbia softball stadium is set for 1 p.m.
