Women’s soccer has scored seven goals in its past two games

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Columbia women's soccer team continued its impressive scoring attack Saturday afternoon to open the Ivy League slate with a commanding 3-0 win over Penn.

Columbia (3-3-3) has now scored seven goals in the past two games with a 4-0 win against Providence and the 3-0 victory today over Penn. All seven goals have been scored by different people as the Lions have become efficient near the net. With today's win, Columbia has now won five straight against Penn dating back to 2019.

The Lions struck first Saturday on a header goal by Sam Cohn in the 39^th minute. Dema Elder was credited with the assist as she launched a corner kick in that found Cohn right in front of the net.

Coming out of halftime, Columbia locked down on defense and limited the Quakers to just one shot in the second half. The offensive attack continued though as Columbia fired eight shots in the second half, resulting in two goals.

Following the assist in the first half, Elder secured her first career goal in the 84^th minute to put the game away. Nata Ramirez earned the assist as she found Elder on a pass in transition. Elder took the ball and drove toward the net before firing a shot that rolled through goalkeepers' hands and into the back of the net.

Just minutes later, Columbia tacked on another goal to extend its lead to 3-0 as the clock winded down. Maia Tabion approached the net and was able to draw the goalkeeper out before passing the ball off to Stephanie Jung, who took the ball and fired it straight in the goal for her first goal of the season. The assist marks Tabion's fourth of the season as she leads the team in the category.

Lauren Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in the net as she collected four saves. All four came in the first half before the Columbia defense limited opportunities for Penn to take shots in the second half.

Columbia is on the road again to continue Ivy League action against Harvard next Saturday. First kick in Cambridge, Massachusetts is set for 4 p.m.
