The sophomore goalkeeper had five saves to help Columbia clinch an Ivy Tournament berth
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia women's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for games played October 27-November 2. The league office announced its weekly selections on Monday afternoon for the final time this season.
Mahoney delivered a clutch performance in Columbia's 2-1 victory over Harvard, making five critical saves to protect the lead in a must-win game that clinched the Lions' spot in the Ivy League postseason. The sophomore goalkeeper was composed under relentless pressure, turning away 10 Crimson corners and anchoring a defense that stood tall as Columbia earned just its fifth-ever win over Harvard.
Highlights from the match, including a brace from first year Evelyn Javers, can be found HERE. One of Mahoney's excellent saves can be viewed HERE.
Mahoney finished the regular season with 29 saves and two shutouts, tallying a 6-5-3 record.
This is the first Ivy accolade of the Massachusetts product's career. It is also the third weekly award for Columbia in 2025, as Annie Faraone was named Offensive Player of the Week on October 13, and Maia Tabion was tabbed Co-Offensive Player of the Week the following Monday.
The Lions will square off against #2 Dartmouth in the opening round of the Ivy League Tournament on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Princeton's Myslik Field. Tickets went on sale earlier this afternoon, HERE.
