Baseball Drops Series Finale at Kennesaw State

The Owls take the series after scoring seven unanswered runs on Sunday
MARIETTA, Ga. — Columbia baseball fell to Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon in the series rubber match, 7-5, at Walter Kelly Memorial Field.
Anton Lazits went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs for the Lions (1-2). Griffin Palfrey was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Columbia slugged 11 hits but left 12 on base.
Columbia got on the board immediately with a Lazits RBI single four batters into the game that scored Palfrey. The Lions plated three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Jackson Brewer belted his first career home run, followed by a pair of RBI singles from Lazits and Palfrey.
Kennesaw State (3-5) responded with seven unanswered runs, including three in the home fifth, to go in front 7-4. The Owls blasted two home runs on the day.
The Lions threatened in the ninth, scoring on a Jack Kail RBI single after Lazits doubled to lead off the inning. Kennesaw State reliever Bo Rhudy worked around it and recorded three strikeouts to close out the win.
Joe Sheets got his first start of the season and went four innings. The senior right-handed hurler allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two. Palfrey and Jagger Edwards each pitched in relief for the Lions. Edwards tossed three scoreless frames and had three strikeouts.
Columbia travels to No. 11 Oregon next weekend for a four-game series Friday-Sunday.
