Tomas Lopez Set to Compete With Team Brazil at World Baseball Classic

Lopez and Team Brazil open up competition on Friday, March 6 against the U.S. at 8 p.m. ET
NEW YORK — Columbia baseball junior Tomas Lopez has joined Team Brazil ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Brazil took on the Athletics on Tuesday and will face the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in exhibition games in Arizona. WBC competition opens on Friday, March 6, when Brazil takes on the United States in Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros. First pitch is slate for 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
Lopez has made two starts for the Lions and is coming off seven shutout frames at Kansas State on February 28.
Brazil will also face Italy (March 7 - 1 p.m. ET), Mexico (March 8 - 8 p.m. ET), and Great Britain (March 9 - 1 p.m. ET).
The top two teams in each pool will advance to the quarterfinals, held March 13-14, at Houston and loanDepot Park in Miami. The semifinals will take place from March 15-16, and the championship is slated for March 17, all in South Beach.
