The senior hit a blistering .588 in four games for the Lions
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia baseball's Jack Kail has been named Ivy League Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, after a dominant stretch at the plate to lead the Lions' offense.
Kail turned in a blistering week, batting 10-for-17 (.588) with three doubles and six RBI across four games. He did not strike out in 19 plate appearances and recorded multiple hits in three of the four contests.
The senior infielder opened the week with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in a midweek win over Fordham, driving in three runs and scoring twice to pace the Lions.
Kail carried that momentum into Ivy League play against Princeton, beginning the series by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in game one. He followed with a 2-for-4 effort in game two, scoring twice and drawing a key walk during Columbia's decisive four-run seventh inning in an 8-6 victory over the Tigers.
He added another hit in Sunday's series finale to extend his hitting streak to seven games, while also pushing his on-base streak to 13 consecutive contests.
Kail became the second Lion to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining Owen Estabrook, who was recognized on March 2. The McMurray, Pennsylvania, native ranks as the 10th-toughest hitter to strike out nationally (one strikeout every 17.7 at-bats) and leads the Ivy League with 11 doubles.
