Canyon Kyle was promoted by head coach Brett Boretti to assistant coach before the 2023 season, and currently serves as Director of Player Development/Camps.

Columbia went back-to-back after winning a second consecutive Ivy League title in 2025. The Lions also won the Ivy League Tournament crown to earn a bid to the NCAA Regionals, where Columbia knocked off Southern Miss in the opening round. Columbia saw 10 student-athletes earn All-Ivy League honors, including Ivy League Player of the Year and ABCA All-Region selection Sam Miller.

Offensively, the Lions led the Ivy League in seven offensive categories, including slugging (.508), scoring (8.8) and home runs (74).

Kyle helped guide the Lions to a 26-18 (17-4) record as Columbia captured the Ivy League title in 2024. Columbia set the single-season program record in home runs (87) for the third straight year, along with RBI (391), runs scored (416), total bases (903), doubles (131), and slugging percentage (.567).

In his first season as assistant coach in 2023, Kyle oversaw two Lions outfielders garner All-Ivy League recognition. Cole Hage was named to the First Team and Hayden Schott was named to the Second Team. Hage hit .385 in 18 conference games on the season and had the highest on-base percentage (.500) in Ivy League play. He led the team in batting average, OPS, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage in conference play and was named Ivy League Player of the Week on April 10. Schott ranked in the top 10 among Ivy League hitters in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, OPS, runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and at-bats. He batted .333 with 62 hits, 11 home runs, 16 doubles, and 31 RBIs. Schott doubled three times vs. Brown on March 26, which tied a program record for most doubles in a game (no other Ivy League batter doubled three times in a game this season). The senior captain also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage in Ivy League play.

Kyle ‘22 SPS was a part of the program from September-December 2022 as a graduate assistant. In this role, he coached specific positions that are assigned by the head coach, helped at high school prospect camps, threw batting practice, and hit fungoes as well as set up and break down practice. Kyle’s duties also included coaching first base and catching bullpen sessions with the pitchers.

Prior to his arrival in Morningside Heights, Kyle served as a Wake Forest Athletic Development Intern. During his time in Winston Salem, N.C, Kyle contacted donors regarding year-end giving, assisted Division I coaches in finding opportunities to strengthen relationships with the largest donors and stakeholders, and used analytics through the Excel application to prepare weekly reports tracking goals for the office.

Kyle’s other experiences in the coaching industry include stops at St. Mark’s School of Texas in 2020 and TCU Baseball Camps in the summer of 2019, specifically working with pitchers and catchers. At St. Mark’s School of Texas, Kyle was a secondary assistant coach and also helped out on offense.

Kyle received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Performance Leadership in May 2021 from Southern Methodist University - Simmons School of Education and Human Development.
