Jordan Townsend was dominant at the plate for the Lions, finishing the day 7-for-8 with two doubles and three RBI while Maddie Gott went 4-for-8 with a pair of home runs and four RBI.
GAME ONE RECAP: Columbia 6, Saint Peter's 1
The Lions wasted no time getting on the board as Maddie Gott sparked the Lions' offense in the top of the first, sending a two-out single through the right side for the first hit of the game. After another hit by Troutt to put a pair on, Jordan Townsend was able to send a RBI single back up the middle to give Columbia the early 1-0 advantage.
With the help of Tessa Kroll holding the Peacocks to only one hit over the next two innings, Jordan Townsend was able to put across two more runs in the top of the third with a double through the left side and into the left-center gap to extend the Columbia lead to 3-0.
While Kroll was able to carry the 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth with five strikeouts over the first three innings, Samantha Storms was able to put the Peacocks on the board with a one-out home run over the left-field wall to cut the Columbia lead to 3-1.
The Lions responded in the top of the fifth, however, as they rallied with three-straight one-out singles and a RBI groundout to plate a pair of runs before a Peacock's error helped cap off a three-run inning, giving Columbia a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
From there, Kroll (2-11) was able to hold the Saint Peter's' offense at bay as she limited the Peacocks to only one run on three hits in the game to earn the 6-1 victory while striking out nine batters in seven innings of work. Crystal Carlucci (0-5) took the loss after 4.2 innings of work, allowing five earned runs on nine hits while striking out one.
Townsend led the Lions after going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored while Maddie Gott went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
GAME TWO RECAP: Columbia 5, Saint Peter's 1
After being held scoreless over the first two innings, the Columbia offense came alive in the top of the third as Krystin Wong led things off with a walk. Following a sac bunt by Reilly Metzger to move Wong into scoring position, Maddie Gott was able to blast a two-run home run down the left-field line to put Columbia on the board first, 2-0.
It was déjà vu all over again in the fifth as the Columbia offense was able to recreate its magic from two innings prior with Wong, Metzger and Gott teaming up for the exact same scenario as the top of the third, including another two-run shot to left by Gott, to make it a 4-0 CU lead.
The Peacocks were able to respond in the bottom of the sixth as Jackie Riley and Samantha Storms teamed up for back-to-back two outs doubles to cut the Columbia lead to 4-1 heading into the seventh.
Once again, the Lions responded in the next inning as Taylor Troutt blasted a solo home run to give Columbia back a four-run advantage, 5-1.
The Peacocks threatened in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back singles to open the inning but Tessa Kroll was able to strand them both on base to end the game and give the Lions a 5-1 victory.
Kroll (3-11) earned the victory after 4.0 innings of relief, allowing one run on five hits while striking out three. Tonia Wu started the game for the Lions, going 3.0 scoreless innings while only allowing two hits. Tiffani Lambert (0-8) took the loss after 4.2 innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits.
Townsend finished game two going 4-for-4 while Gott went 2-for-4 with her two home runs for the Lions.
The Lions will return to action this weekend as they head to Ithaca, New York, to take on Cornell in a pair of doubleheaders on April 16-17.
