
Lacrosse Earns Five All-Ivy League Selections

The Columbia lacrosse team earned, a program record, five selections on the All-Ivy League teams, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, May 1st. Junior Lindsey Ewertsen became the first player in program history to garner Midfielder of the Year honors. Senior attacker Victoria Kalamaras joined Ewertsen on the first team giving the Lions a pair of first-team honor for the first time in program history.
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia lacrosse team earned a program-record five selections on the All-Ivy League teams, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, May 1. Junior Lindsey Ewertsen became the first player in program history to earn Midfielder of the Year honors. Senior attacker Victoria Kalamaras joined Ewertsen on the All-Ivy League First Team, giving the Lions a pair of first-team honorees for the first time in program history.
Senior defender Kathryn Cavallo earned second-team honors, while first-year forward Alexandria Absey and senior goalkeeper Kelsey Gedin were honorable mention selections.
Ewertsen was a sensational all-around player in the regular season, leading Columbia in draw controls, caused turnovers, and ground balls. With 75 draw controls, the junior set a new program single-season record, and added a single-game record 15 in the Lions' home finale against Princeton. In just three seasons, she continues to elevate the career record-setting mark in caused turnovers with 90, behind 37 on the year, and also leads the Ivy League in ground balls with 25. Ewertsen fired in 26 goals and 15 assists overall this season with 17 scores and five helpers coming in Ivy League play.
Victoria Kalamaras capped a phenomenal career as Columbia's greatest passer of all-time by putting a regular season exclamation on two program records. Kalamaras became the first player to surpass 100+ career assists with a current mark of 105, behind the second most overall assists in the Ivy League this season with 31. The Mountain Lakes, N.J. native also became the first the Lion to have 20-plus assists and 20-plus goals in three-consecutive seasons with 31 assists and 24 goals in 2018. A two-time Second Team All-Ivy selection (2016, 2017), Kalamaras cracks the first team in her final season.
As an elite defender, senior Kathryn Cavallo started in all 14 games for the Lions in 2018. She captained a tough Columbia defense with 18 caused turnovers and 27 groundballs for her first All-Ivy League selection. With 118 saves in goal, Kelsey Gedin finished the regular season with the second most saves in program history at 523 for her career. She joins Marcela Calidionio '06CC (532) as the only goalkeepers to amass 500-plus career saves.
Alexandria Absey led the Lions in goal scoring this season with 32 overall and 11 in conference play behind five hat tricks. A prolific offensive threat, she held the nation's top shooting percentage for nine consecutive weeks.
The Lions are back in action on Friday, May 4 at 7:05 p.m. as they take on No. 1 seed and host Princeton in the Ivy League Tournament.
