Softball Scheduled for 5 Games on West Coast Trip

Lions set to compete against St. Mary’s, North Dakota, Cal Baptist and Loyola Marymount
NEW YORK — The Columbia softball team (2-7) will play five games this Saturday-Monday out on the West Coast. The Lions are scheduled for four games at the UCR / CBU Classic in Riverside, California on Saturday and Sunday. They'll then head to LA for a single against Loyola Marymount on Monday.
Columbia's complete schedule with accompanying game times are listed below. Please note, the game times listed below are Eastern.
WEST COAST SCHEDULE
Saturday:
Columbia vs. Saint Mary's | 6 p.m. ET
Columbia vs. Cal Baptist | 8:30 p.m. ET
Sunday:
Columbia vs. North Dakota | 3:30 p.m. ET
Columbia vs. Cal Baptist | 6 p.m. ET
Monday:
Columbia vs. Loyola Marymount | 5 p.m. ET

LAST TIME OUT:
Columbia (2-7) is coming off a 10-3 victory over Coppin State that closed out last weekend's tournament at Towson. The Lions pummeled the Tigers for 10 runs on 15 hits, led by four-hit games from Abby Stuart and Maddie Souza. Stuart was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Souza went a perfect 4-for-4 with a run, an RBI and her first collegiate triple.
The victory sent the Lions home feeling good after two close games the day prior didn't go their way. Providence used a three-run fifth to defeat Columbia, 8-5, followed by a narrow, 2-1, loss to host Towson.
HOT BATS
Four Lions will head to California looking to keep their good offensive starts going. Graduate Maria Pagane leads the pack, hitting a team-best .364 with 12 hits and three runs across the first nine games. Bubba Gleaves (.348) and Abby Stuart (.323) have combined to drive in 10 runs and score 12 more. Off the bench, Lauren Osborne is hitting .308 in 13 at-bats with a run and three RBI.
IN THE CIRCLE
First-year Jordan Hill (1-2) heads the pitching staff with a 4.36 ERA to this point. She's tossed 17 2/3 innings, appearing in five games, starting twice and striking out eight. Raquel Reyes (0-2) and Kaia McCaul (1-3) have started the other seven games. Both McCaul and Reyes have tossed a complete game.
TRACKING THE DEBUTS
Entering the season, 10 of the 19 players on Columbia's roster had never played in a collegiate softball game. All 10 Lions have since made their collegiate debuts.
Eight Lions made their debut on opening weekend at FAU's Strike Out Cancer Tournament -- Raquel Reyes, Jordan Hill, Maddy Rifenberick, Maddie Souza, Jaden Hill, Cami Neal, Lauren Osborne and Caroline Palys. All eight of them started at least once over the weekend. Reyes, a pitcher, was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll, posting a 4.02 ERA in 15 2/3 innings, which included a one-run, two-hit, complete-game performance against Michigan State.
Hunter Travers and Maddie De Leon made their debuts against FDU. Travers pinch ran for Maria Pagane in the third inning. De Leon pinch hit in the fifth and doubled down the left field line in her first collegiate at-bat.
SERIES FIRSTS
The Columbia softball program will be playing its first games in series history against every team it will face at this weekend's UCR / CBU Classic. Monday's opponent, Loyola Marymount, has played Columbia once before, which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Lions from California.
