The Lions are looking for their third-straight win when they face NJIT Wednesday
NEW YORK – Coming off two shutout wins last week, Columbia (4-1-1) is looking for its third-straight win Wednesday night as the Lions welcome NJIT (3-1-4) to Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. Kickoff.
Wednesday's game will be streamed through ESPN+ and live stats can be found HERE.
Columbia capped off a 2-0 week Sunday with a dominant 8-0 win against Fairleigh Dickinson. Six Lions scored in the win as Ania Prussak and Maia Tabion each netted two goals. Columbia scored its most in a game since netting a program-record 11 in a shutout win over Wagner on September 24, 2017. Sunday's tally tied for the third-most in a game in school history with an 8-0 margin against Drexel in 1994. It was one off of second place, defeating Iona, 9-0, in 1987.
The Lions got last week started with a 2-0 win on the road at Fordham last Thursday. Kat Jordan scored both goals to help lead Columbia to the win. The performance marked the first time in Jordan's Columbia career that she scored more than one goal in a game.
Following an impressive week on the field, the Lions moved up the national rankings in several statistical categories. Columbia is currently tied for eighth in NCAA Division I women's soccer in goals-against average. The Columbia defense is off to the best start in program history, allowing just one goal through the first six games
Columbia also ranks 31st in points per game and 32nd in assists per game nationally. As an individual, senior goalkeeper Paige Nurkin ranks 11th in goals-against average.
Among Ivy League foes, Columbia leads the league in scoring with 16 total goals and a 2.667 score average. The Lions also lead the league in goals allowed with a .17 goals-against average.
Jordan currently ranks second in the Ivy League in goals scored with four total. Prussak and Tabion are tied for third in the league with three goals each. Jordan is also tied for first in the league in game-winning goals with three credited to her.
Nurkin leads the league with a .222 goals against average. She also leads the league in save percentage at .938 with 15 saves and only one goal allowed.
NJIT enters the game with a 3-1-4 overall mark for the season. The Highlanders are coming off back-to-back 1-1 ties against La Salle and Wagner last week.
The Highlander's offense has been led by Gabby Zalot, Briana Andreoli and Maria Nogueira, who have each scored two goals this season. Goalkeeper Samantha Constantine has earned starts in each game and has allowed six goals.
