Vandercook played 162 games for the Lions from 2012-15
NEW YORK — Columbia baseball head coach Brett Boretti has announced the hiring of former two-time All-Ivy League First Team infielder David Vandercook '15CC as Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator.
Vandercook was a three-year starter and helped the Lions win the Ivy League title all three of those seasons from 2013-15. The Boca Raton, Florida, native received a bachelor's degree in history at Columbia.
"I'm fired up to get Dave back to Columbia to help our program continue to build on the championship culture we have," Boretti said. "Dave is a three-time Ivy League champion and I feel he has a unique ability to recruit the best fits for our team and develop our players to reach their potential."
In 162 games for the Lions under Boretti, Vandercook batted .248 with 126 hits, 14 home runs, 90 RBIs, and a .362 OBP. Vandercook was named First Team All-Ivy League in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015. Following a stellar senior year in 2015 in which he batted .308 over 50 games, Vandercook also garnered ABCA All-Region recognition.
"I am so excited to return to Columbia as a coach," Vandercook said. "My love for this program and university runs deep. I look forward to a successful tenure here."
No stranger to New York City, Vandercook is coming off a four-year stint with Manhattan College as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. With the Jaspers, Vandercook was responsible for hitters, infielders, and outfielders.
In 2022, Vandercook aided in the development of First Team All-MAAC shortstop David Bermudez and outfielder Pete Durocher, both of which had career years for the Jaspers. Manhattan's 2023 recruiting class was ranked 57th in the country according to Perfect Game.
Prior to his tenure with Manhattan, Vandercook was an assistant coach at Dartmouth for a year. He worked with Big Green infielders and oversaw hitting. Vandercook's other collegiate coaching stops include Middlebury College and Claremont McKenna College.
Vandercook replaces Dan Tischler on Boretti's staff, who accepted a coaching position at Boston College. Tischler was a part of five Ivy League Championships during his 11 seasons at Columbia and 24 infielders earned All-Ivy League accolades throughout his tenure.
"Losing long time Associate Head Coach Dan Tischler was bittersweet," Boretti said. "Tisch did such an amazing job for Columbia baseball and I'm excited to see him move on to help Boston College."
