Dani Falcone notches Lions' goal
STORRS, Conn. - The Columbia lacrosse team was defeated, 17-1, by the UCONN Huskies on Wednesday evening in Storrs.
The Huskies caught fire right away in the first quarter despite the rain, and never really allowed the Lions to find their footing on the wet turf.
Connecticut scored 12 straight goals in the first half, while shutting out Columbia's offense to take a commanding lead. This was the fourth straight quarter UCONN's defense held its opponent scoreless.
The Huskies scored the first goal of the third quarter to extend their lead to 13, but Dani Falcone ended UCONN's run with her 12th goal of the season which broke the Lions' scoring drought.
Columbia's defense was much improved in the second half, allowing just two goals in the fourth quarter and five goals in the entire half, but the Lions' offense wasn't able to overcome the team's early struggles.
Along with her goal, Falcone had a team-high four draw controls and two ground balls. Maddy Goger led the Lions' defense with a career-high two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Despite the rough final score, Ava Kimche neared her career-high in saves with 11 and held the Huskies to a brutal 0-6 from the free-position arc.
After a long road trip, the Lions return home on Saturday afternoon to take on the Brown Bears at Kraft Field. It will be Columbia's Pride Game, with the first draw scheduled for 1 p.m.
