Lacrosse Finishes Opening Road Trip Against Monmouth and Lehigh

Lions will first take on the Hawks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Columbia lacrosse team's opening road trip to begin the 2025 season continues with two more games against Monmouth and Lehigh.
The Lions will first take on the Hawks on Saturday at 1 p.m. in New Jersey before traveling to Pennsylvania to take on the Mountain Hawks on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions opened the season last Saturday with a 15-7 loss to the Oregon Ducks in Eugene.
Seven different Lions scored on the day, with Dani Falcone leading the Lions' offense with one goal and three assists, totaling four points in the loss. The other goal scorers for the Lions were Katelyn Lee, Cecelia Messner, Cordelia Flemming, Maddie Brogan, Ellie Taylor, and Sophie Kruse. For Lee and Brogan, it was the first of their careers.
Falcone also set the tone for the Lions on defense, leading the team with four caused turnovers, adding two ground balls and a draw control. Julie Griswold led the team with four ground balls. Ava Kimche was strong in goal, recording 10 saves.
On Brogan's first career goal in the first quarter, Falcone had the assist which marked the 100th point of her career.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
The Hawks head into Saturday's contest with three games already under their belt, losing all three of them. Monmouth opened the season with an 18-7 loss to Colgate, and followed that up with losses to Rutgers and Bryant last week.
Last season, the Hawks finished 6-10 overall with a 2-6 record in the CAA. Monmouth was projected to finish sixth in the 2025 CAA Preseason Poll, and Caroline Brennan was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
The Lions took on the Hawks in 2024 at Kraft Field, with Monmouth coming away with a 13-12 victory. With the Hawks leading by one with just over a minute to play, sophomore Alison Surace caused her career-high fourth turnover and scooped up her career-high fourth ground ball. The Lions cleared the ball, and called timeout with one minute remaining. Searching for the best shot, it was Dani Falcone who charged forward with 10 seconds remaining looking to tie the game, but her shot was just high and the Hawks held on for the one-goal victory. Cecelia Messner led the way for the Lions with a career-high five goals and six points.
Shea Berigan leads Monmouth with eight goals so far this season. Danielle McNeely has added five goals.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
The Mountain Hawks head into. next week's contest currently 0-1. Lehigh opened the season with a 17-7 loss to South Florida last week, and will take on La Salle this Saturday prior to facing Columbia.
Last season, the Mountain Hawks finished 8-9 overall with a 3-6 record in the Patriot League. Lehigh was projected to finish fifth in the 2025 Patriot League Preseason Poll.
Angelina Pino leads the Mountain Hawks with three goals on the season. Molly Snow and Gracie Shoup have two assists each.
ON DECK
Columbia will return to New York City for its home opener on Saturday, March 1. The Lions will take on Sacred Heart at 11 a.m. at Kraft Field.
