NEW YORK - The Columbia lacrosse team continues a non-conference swing on Wednesday, when the Lions return home from a quick trip to Pennsylvania to host the UConn Huskies. First draw is set for 3 p.m. at Robert K. Kraft Field.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia dropped a non-conference contest to the Villanova Wildcats, 12-8, on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium in a rematch of one of the top performances from 2024.
Anna Becker led the way for the Lions offense with her three points, two of them being goals. Four Lions added two points of their own, with Maddie Brogan scoring two goals, and Cordelia Flemming, Dani Falcone and Ellie Taylor each recording one goal and one assist each.
On the defensive end, goalie Simone Koryszewski started her second consecutive game and recorded her second straight performance with double-digit saves, following up her 14 save game against Yale with 10 more saves against the Wildcats. Falcone had a team high in ground balls with three, as well as adding two caused turnovers. Maddie Feldner also had two caused turnovers, matching Falcone for the team lead.
On the defensive end Flemming, Maddy Goger and Natalia Raiszadeh were tied for the team lead in ground balls, with three apiece. Falcone led the way with three caused turnovers. Flemming had a team-high five draw controls.
SCOUTING UCONN
The Huskies enter Wednesday's contest with a 5-3 record, with all three losses coming to ranked teams. Ranked #25 themselves until this past week, UConn most recently lost to #4 Yale 17-8 in Storrs. The Huskies also have losses to #18 James Madison and #24 Harvard. They own a win over #24 Drexel from week one of the season.
Last year, UConn finished 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the Big East. The Huskies would eventually fall to a top-10 Denver team in the Big East Championship.
Columbia and UConn squared off last season, with the Huskies earning a 17-1 victory in Storrs. The Lions last defeated UConn in 2019 in New York City.
Rayea Davis scored her 100th career goal in the loss to Yale, becoming the 13th Husky in program history to achieve that accomplishment. Jenna Giardina's multi-point streak continued despite the defeat, adding a goal and two assists last week. Riley Daly continues to close in on another UConn milestone, sitting at 94 career draw controls, needing only six more to cross the 100 draw control threshold.
