Brewer hits second homer of the weekend, Santana fans eight to earn the victory
NEW YORK — Columbia baseball secured the series win against Harvard, topping the Crimson 8-3 on Sunday at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.
The Lions (4-12, 2-1) racked up a season-high in hits with 14, highlighted by Jackson Brewer's three-run homer in the fourth inning to put Columbia in front for good. Anthony Temesvary and Ben Fishel each tallied three hits and one RBI.
On the mound, Thomas Santana (1-2) put on a clinic, working 7.0 innings, striking out eight batters while only allowing three hits.
Jack Kail sparked the early momentum with an RBI single to deep right field, bringing home Jimmy Chadwell to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. In the next at-bat, Owen Estabrook followed with an infield single, placing the ball just beyond the catcher's reach to plate Kail and extend the lead to 2-0.
Harvard (2-14, 1-2) responded with a two-run home run in the fourth by Jordan Kang to even the game at 2-2.
With two on in the fourth, Brewer came up clutch to quickly give the lead back to the Lions with his fourth home run of the season to take over the team lead.
The Lions added on in the seventh, stringing together three runs behind RBI singles from Lucas Jackson, Anthony Temesvary and Ben Fishel to extend the advantage to 8-2.
Harvard added a solo home run in the eighth, but Brendan Murphy closed out the final 2.0 innings to preserve the win.
