
Women's Soccer Bests Manhattan 1-0 In Home Opener

NEW YORK – The Columbia women's soccer team bested Manhattan, 1-0 in a non-conference match on Friday, Sept. 11 at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. The Lions were focused on both sides of the ball and gave the Jaspers its first shutout loss of the season.
First-year Rachel Alexander scored what proved to be the decisive goal off a header in the first half, her first goal of her collegiate career. At the 14:13 mark, Holly Neshat sent a cross, and the first-year was able to bury it for the goal.
The Columbia defense stayed strong thrhought the game despite seing 12 shots from Manhattan. Allison Spencer picked up her second shutout of the season, saving five shots along the way.
The Lions improve to 2-2-0 overall with the victory and will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3p.m. as they play host to Iona to cap opening weekend.
