Greenville, N.C. – Led by three players tallying hat tricks, the Columbia lacrosse team put together its highest-scoring performance of the season on Saturday, March 17 en route to an 18-6 victory over East Carolina. The Lions matched their record for the most points scored in a road game with 18 goals from nine different scorers.
On the opening possession, Emily Manville gave Columbia their first score in just 10 seconds of play. Manville led an eight-goal half by the Lions with a hat trick in the period. Six different players found the back the net for a sizeable 8-3 lead over the Pirates at the break.
Victoria Kalamaras became the first player in program history to notch 90-plus career assists behind a three-point first half with a goal and two assists. The senior attacker went on finish the game with three goals and two assists for a game-high five points
Lindsey Ewertsen was sensational with her contributions in every facet of the game. Offensively she tallied a pair of goals and a pair of assist. With a game-high four caused turnovers defensively, she surpassed Brynn Wumbard '00CC (69) on Columbia's all-time list collecting her 72nd. Another game-high five draw controls (109 – 5th) and three ground balls (109 – 6th) also pushed the junior ahead Marisa Marcellino '08CC on the all-time list in both categories.
Fallon Quinn earned her third hat trick of the season with three goals on the day joining Manville and Kalamaras to lead the scoring charge. First-years Chelsea Witteck (2g, 1a) and Alexandria Absey (1g, 1a) combined five points on the day, while senior Cassie Hertzig notched her first career goal and assist. Orna Madigan found the back of the net twice, with her first coming off an assist from Nicole Kalamaras, and Regan Steed scored a goal in her fourth-consecutive game.
Combining for 12 saves on the day was goalkeepers Kelsey Gedin (8 sv.) and Abby Roberts (6 sv.). Gedin becomes just the second goalkeeper in Columbia history to surpass 450 career saves with a current total of 457.
The Lions will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at Hofstra.
