Lions Gear Up for Matchup at UConn Saturday

Columbia continues non-conference play Saturday at UConn at 11:30 a.m. ET
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's lacrosse team resumes its non-conference schedule this weekend, traveling to Storrs, Connecticut, to take on the University of Connecticut on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET.

The Lions will take a break from Ivy League action this weekend, having most recently played Cornell at home on March 9. Columbia took an early 3-1 lead in the game and held a 7-6 advantage at halftime, but the Big Red used a second-half surge to earn a 12-9 win. Senior midfielders Laine Parsons and Lindsey Ewertsen led the Lions' offense in the outing, with Parsons posting a season-high three goals and Ewertsen dishing out a career-high four assists. Junior goalkeeper Abby Roberts also made a career-high 12 saves in the contest.
Sophomore Alexandria Absey leads the Lions with 14 goals on the season, while Ewertsen has a team-leading 24 points on 13 goals and 11 assists.
SCOUTING UCONN
The Huskies enter Saturday's game with a 1-5 overall record after opening the season with five-straight losses. UConn is coming off its first win of the season, having defeated Albany, 10-9, at home on Wednesday. The Huskies went ahead 9-3 early in the game, but Albany scored six of the last seven goals in the contest.
Sophomore midfielder Sydney Watson leads UConn in their scoring efforts this season with 21 points on 16 goals and five assists.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Lions will look to even up the all-time series record, as Columbia trails 2-1. The two teams have not met since April 7, 2012, where UConn snagged a 14-13 overtime win in New York.
ON DECK
Kicking off a three-game home stretch, Columbia returns home Tuesday, March 19, for a midweek matchup against Villanova. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. at Wien Stadium.
