Sophomore attacker Rachel Graff and junior attacker Alexandria Absey each had two goals for the Lions
STORRS, Conn. – The Columbia women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 decision at UConn on Wednesday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Connecticut.
The contest will be the Lions' last of the season as a decision was announced during the game that the Ivy League presidents had voted to cancel the remainder of spring competition. More details on the announcement can be found here.
Junior attacker Alexandria Absey and sophomore attacker Rachel Graff had two goals each, while senior midfielder Fallon Quinn, senior midfielder Orna Madigan and sophomore midfielder Katie Lutz also added scores.
UConn (5-2) went ahead early with the first three goals of the game, but the Lions responded as Absey soared back-to-back goals into the cage to make it 3-2 with 18:48 remaining in the first half. Graff tacked on a first-half goal, but the Lions would trail 6-3 heading into the locker room.
The second half was slow to start as neither team scored in the first four minutes, but the Huskies netted the first score of the period at the 25:41 mark. Columbia (0-7) took one back as Madigan posted a free-position goal, her fifth of the season. The two teams traded goals back and forth as Quinn made it 11-7 with 12:19 on the clock. UConn scored the final three goals of the game.
Sophomore attacker Payton Lill once again led the Lions with four draw controls in the contest, while junior midfielder Devon Stuzin had a team-best two assists.
All seven Columbia seniors – Madigan, Quinn, Regan Steed, Caroline Thompson, Alyssa Adamo, Brailey Faris and Abby Roberts – saw playing time in the game
