Lacrosse Suffers First Loss to Visiting Bryant

NEW YORK -- The Columbia women's lacrosse team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season in a 6-20 defeat to the visiting Bryant Bulldogs on Robert K. Kraft field. Despite scoring first, the Lions fell into a quick hole and were unable to climb out before the final buzzer.
Senior Sydney Paoletti found the back of the net with 9:41 to play in the first quarter, giving Columbia an early 1-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs answered with four goals in rapid succession and would go on to lead 13-3 at the half.
Paoletti and first-year Dani Falcone scored two goals a piece, leading the Lions offense. On the day, Paoletti dished out a pair of assists for a team-best four total points.
In the final minute and a half, rookie Kate Cunning and junior Chandler Jean-Jacques capitalized on goal, producing Columbia's quickest points of the contest.
On the defensive end, sophomore Lauren Yun caused a pair of turnovers while Katie Lutz and Julie Griswold contributed one CTO each. First-year Simone Koryszewski and senior captain Ryan Schlageter split time in net, combining for eight total saves.
The Lions return to Lawrence A. Wien Stadium next Saturday when Columbia opens its Ivy League slate against Brown at 1:00 P.M..
