Lacrosse Concludes Non-Conference Competition Against SDSU

Columbia will welcome San Diego State to Baker Athletic Complex on Saturday.
NEW YORK -- The Columbia lacrosse team (2-7) will welcome San Diego State University (4-6) to the Empire State in a 1:00 P.M. tilt at the Baker Athletic Complex. The game will be contested at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium with live stats updating through GoColumbiaLions.com.
LIONS LAST
The Lions fell to No. 21 UConn on Wednesday, dropping a 8-20 result on the road. Regardless out outcome, first year head coach Anne Murray's squad performed at a high level, edging the Huskies in successful clears (Columbia went 17-of-17) and collecting 22 ground balls to UConn's 17.
Junior Chandler Jean-Jacques paced the offense, producing her second hat trick of the season.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
`First year standout Dani Falcone leads the Lions in both goals and overall points, finding the back of the net 15 times this season while amassing 18 points. Seniors Katie Lutz and Rachel Graff provide additional power on the offensive end. Graff sits second on the team in goals (13) while Lutz' 11 goals and five assists for 16 points rank just behind Falcone. Rookie Kate Cunning has found the best of both worlds in the midfield, scoring 11 goals while leading the team in caused turnovers (9).
Falcone, Lutz, and sophomore Sophie Zachara have taken the majority of draws this season. Falcone paces the group with 23 controls while Lutz and Zachara have secured 21 a piece.
First-year Simone Koryszewski and senior Ryan Schlageter split time in goal, making six and five appearances, respectively. On five starts, Koryszewski has made 55 saves while allowing 75 goals for .430 save percentage. Both keepers lead the Lions in ground balls with 16 each.
THE OPPONENT
San Diego State enters Saturday with a 4-6 overall record. Most recently, the Aztecs defeated Quinnipiac in the first game of their East Coast visit, outscoring the Bobcats 13-7. This season, SDSU has faced two ranked opponents, falling to No. 10 Princeton 18-27 and No. 9 Denver 11-19.
Tewaraaton Award Watch List attacker Deanna Balsama is the face of the Aztec offense, scoring a whopping 46 goals in 10 starts. The senior's 4.6 goals and 7.1 shots on goal per game sit second in the nation. A transfer from Goerge Mason, Balsama leads her team in goals and points for the fourth consecutive season.
Senior Sam Horan has played every second in goal, owning a .465 save percentage. Classmate Bailey Brown is the Aztecs' preferred draw-taker, controlling 40 draws.
