Baseball Hosts Harvard In Ivy League Weekend Series

Columbia Baseball welcomes Harvard for a three-game Ivy League series starting on Saturday, Apr. 16.
NEW YORK — Columbia Baseball (15-13, 7-2 IVY) looks to stay hot as the Lions return to Ivy League play with a weekend series at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium against Harvard (13-13, 5-3 IVY) with the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 16 set to get going at 11:45 a.m. and the Sunday, Apr. 17 single game scheduled to get going at 12 p.m.
HONORING 2020/2021: On Saturday, Apr. 16, when Columbia welcomes Harvard for a three-game weekend series, the Lions will honor the Classes of 2020 and 2021. The ceremony will take place at 11:20 a.m., and a tent will be set up during the game for fans to meet with and celebrate the two classes while Columbia and Harvard play a doubleheader.
MS4MS DAY AT THE PARK: Saturday, Apr. 16, will also be MS4MS Day at The Park, hosted by former Columbia Lion Dario Pizzano. Make sure to come by and meet with Dario and donate to the MS4MS organization. Tables to donate to MS4MS will be set up by the press box at the entrance of Satow Stadium.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS:
GM1 - Sean Higgins: 2-3 7.13 ERA (RHP/COL) – Jaren Zinn: 2-1 5.76 ERA (RHP/HAR)
GM2 - Joe Sheets: 1-1 6.23 ERA (RHP/COL) – Tim Williamson: 3-2 6.68 ERA (LHP/HAR)
GM3: TBA (COL) – Adam Stone: 2-2 4.03 ERA (RHP/HAR)
COLUMBIA'S STATUS: Winning eight straight, the Lions come into Saturday's weekend series also winning their last six straight Ivy League games. Columbia has swept the previous two weekends and have had at least one comeback in each league weekend series.
INSIDE THE SERIES: Both Columbia and Harvard have met 158 times over their long history, with the Crimson holding a 89-68-1 advantage over Columbia. Columbia last beat the Crimson at home in 2018, with Columbia winning two-out-of-three games on that weekend.
WHAT THE CRIMSON BRING: The Crimson come into the weekend on a five-game losing streak, which includes three straight Ivy League losses. The last win for Harvard came against Brown on Apr. 2 in a doubleheader sweep to open that weekend's series.
POWERING PAST FORDHAM: The Lions took care of Fordham in a midweek game, crushing the Rams, 16-3, hitting five home runs along the way. Columbia got four home runs in the fourth inning, with Andy Blake, Tyler MacGregor and Hayden Schott going back-to-back-to-back.
SCORING RUNS ... LOTS OF RUNS: Over the past seven games, the Lions have scored at least 10 runs, a program record for such a stretch. During the offensive output, the Lions have outscored their opponents 93-27.
WERESKI IS ROYAL: Former Lion pitcher, Ben Wereski '20CC was signed by the Kansas City Royals organization on Apr. 14. Wereski will pitch for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball.
EJ LOVES NEW YORK: Only having 16 at bats at home, EJ Kreutzmann has really enjoyed his time at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium, hitting .500 with 13 RBIs 2 HR and 2 2B.
STAYING SWEEPTASTIC: For the second straight weekend, the Lions swept their Ivy League match up, taking down Brown in all three games played in Providence, R.I. It was the first time the Lions have swept an Ivy League weekend since 2015.
COMEBACK CATS: The Lions have had a flair for the dramatic, completing two comebacks over the weekend to beat Brown, giving them four Ivy League wins when trailing entering the seventh inning. The latest comebacks came in the first game of Brown's Saturday doubleheader and in the Sunday game to wrap up the sweep.
NUMBERS ARE IVY: Columbia's individual numbers in the Ivy League have been solid putting the Lions in first place in the league.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: With a solid weekend at the plate and several stellar plays at third base, Anton Lazits was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the week of April 11.
Lazits was tied for the team lead in batting average, hitting .500 with 2 2B 1 HR 2 RBIs and he slugged .813 percent. The Lion first-year was also perfect in the field, producing a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with three putouts and four assists.
THIS CATCHER CAN SCOOT: Weston Eberly has shown some power and speed during Columbia's 28 games, smacking four triples over that stretch. He ranks third nationally in total triples and his triples per game average puts him 4th in the nation. Eberly is also tied for the lead for most triples by a catcher in the country.
NATIONALLY FAST: Columbia has been extremely aggressive on the base paths all season and the numbers reflect that. The Lions have racked up 49 total stolen bases and are averaging 1.8 stolen bases per game
Nationally they rank 34th in stolen bases per game and 54th in total stolen bases. And sit first in total stolen bases and second in stolen bases per game in the Ivy League.
THE BIG 300: Brett Boretti reached the 400-win plateau last season and during Columbia's home opening win over Manhattan on Mar. 23, he got his 300th win with the Lions. He sits second all-time, with Boretti making the move up from third in Columbia's weekend at Davidson. Boretti became only the second coach in program history to ever reach the 300-win milestone.
Boretti's 175 Ivy League wins and .601 winning percentage in conference play are both program benchmarks.
PRESEASON PICKS: Columbia was picked to finish second in the Ivy League preseason poll. The Lions, who tied with Yale for the most first-place votes at five, finished six points ahead of Penn, who were picked to finish third.
