Lions Celebrate Class Of 2022; Host Yale In Three Game Series

Columbia Baseball will honor the Class of 2022 on Sunday, Apr. 24 in the final game of a three-game Ivy League weekend series against Yale.
NEW YORK — With a 12-game winning streak in their pockets, Columbia Baseball (19-13, 10-2 IVY) returns to Ivy League play with a three-game series against Yale (17-13, 7-5 IVY) to wrap up their 2022 home slate with a doubleheader set to get going on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 11:30 a.m. and a single game set for Sunday, Apr. 24 at 12:10 p.m. with all three games being played at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.
Sunday is also Senior Day, and the Lions will honor the Class of 2022 ahead of the game. The ceremonies are set to get going at 11:45 a.m.

Columbia extended its overall winning streak with a 15-7 win over Marist on Wed., Apr. 20.
INSIDE THE SERIES: Having faced each other 178 times entering the weekend, Columbia and Yale face off with the Bulldogs holding a 103-75 advantage all-time. Columbia has won the last five meetings between the two and the last win at home came on Mar. 25, 2018. Three out of the last four games have gone to extra innings.
WHAT THE BULLDOGS BRING: Yale won its last game, a midweek matchup on Apr. 20 with Quinnipiac (8-7) and at 17-13 (7-5 IVY) the Bulldogs took two out of three over Brown in their previous Ivy weekend series.
CATCHING THE RED FOXES: Columbia, in the first meeting all-time with Marist, won its midweek matchup with the Red Foxes, 15-7. The win extended Columbia's winning streak to 12 straight games and it was their third straight midweek game win.
HAVE A DAY JACK COOPER: In Columbia's midweek win over Marist, Jack Cooper stepped into the first base roll and had a big day at the plate. He went 4-for-5 with a two-run HRs and he knocked in three runs.
BULLPEN WORK: The Lions got 3.2 of scoreless innings from Billy Black and Derek Yoo to wrap up the win over Marist. Black went 1.2 innings giving up two hits while Yoo went 2.0 innings giving up just one hit.
NUMBERS ARE IVY: Columbia's individual numbers in the Ivy League have been solid putting the Lions in first place in the league.

HITTING NATIONALLY: The Lions' hitting has put them in the top 50 nationally in several offensive categories, sitting 18th in slugging percentage, 36th in home runs per game and 38th in batting average. Columbia also sits 60th in scoring, 51st in total doubles, 38th in triples per game and 45th in total triples.
NATIONALLY FAST: Columbia has been extremely aggressive on the base paths all season and the numbers reflect that. The Lions have racked up 57 total stolen bases and are averaging 1.8 stolen bases per game
Nationally they rank 32nd in stolen bases per game and 40th in total stolen bases. And sit first in total stolen bases and second in stolen bases per game in the Ivy League.
ANOTHER IVY SWEEP: For the third straight weekend, Columbia took care of its Ivy League opponent, sweeping Harvard by outscoring the Crimson 37-19 over all three games. The wins extended Columbia's Ivy League winning streak to nine straight games.
The sweep also meant that for the first time in Ivy League history, since going to the current format in 2018, a team has swept three straight weekends.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Joe Sheets' seven inning starting performance in the second game of the doubleheader against Harvard earned him Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors. Sheets allowed no runs, struck out seven and gave up six hits in his outstanding start.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK (AGAIN): For the second time this season, Columbia earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors, this time the nod went to Hayden Schott. Schott hit .615 with three home runs and nine RBIs, to go along with a 1.462 slugging percentage and a pair of doubles.
THIS CATCHER CAN SCOOT: Weston Eberly has shown some power and speed during Columbia's 32 games, smacking four triples over that stretch. He ranks third nationally in total triples and his triples per game average puts him 4th in the nation. Eberly is also tied for the lead for most triples by a catcher in the country.
EJ LOVES NEW YORK: Only having 24 at bats at home, EJ Kreutzmann has really enjoyed his time at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium, hitting .458 with 16 RBIs 2 HR and 2 2B.
WERESKI IS ROYAL: Former Lion pitcher, Ben Wereski '20CC was signed by the Kansas City Royals organization on Apr. 14. Wereski will pitch for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball.
THE BIG 300: Brett Boretti reached the 400-win plateau last season and during Columbia's home opening win over Manhattan on Mar. 23, he got his 300th win with the Lions. He sits second all-time, with Boretti making the move up from third in Columbia's weekend at Davidson. Boretti became only the second coach in program history to ever reach the 300-win milestone.
Boretti's 178 Ivy League wins and .605 winning percentage in conference play are both program benchmarks.
PRESEASON PICKS: Columbia was picked to finish second in the Ivy League preseason poll. The Lions, who tied with Yale for the most first-place votes at five, finished six points ahead of Penn, who were picked to finish third.
