Softball Set for Senior Weekend Against Princeton

Lions host Tigers in season finale Saturday and Sunday
NEW YORK — The Columbia softball team (12-23, 8-10 Ivy) will close the book on its 2022 season this Saturday and Sunday with a three-game series against Princeton (22-14-2, 14-4 Ivy). Saturday's scheduled doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m. ET. The series finale from the Columbia Softball Stadium is set to begin at the same time on Sunday.

SENIOR SENDOFF
Columbia will be honoring multiple graduating classes over the weekend. The Class of 2022 consisting of Lauren Apollaro, Abby Stuart and fifth-year graduate Maria Pagane will be honored prior to Sunday's season finale. The Class of 2020 that last its season after 10 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be honored prior to the start of Saturday's doubleheader. All six seniors from that year's team – Erin Gallo, Genny Soltesz, Madison Canby, Amanda Nishihira, Amber Swinarski and Sommer Grzybek – are expected to be in attendance.
OFFENSIVE LEADERS
Columbia's offense is led by Abby Stuart, who is hitting .376 (41-109) this season with an Ivy League-leading 1.025 OPS. Stuart is tied for second in the league in batting average, top five in hits (41), home runs (7) and slugging (.596), as well as top 10 in RBI (19) and runs scored (18). Four Lions are hitting between .255 and .266, which consists of Bubba Gleaves, Maria Pagane, Jaden Hill and Maddie Souza. Hill is tied for Stuart's team lead in RBI, while Gleaves leads Columbia in runs (19) and leads the Ivy League in walks (23).
IN THE CIRCLE
Columbia's staff features three pitchers, led by first year Jordan Hill (6-10), who carries a team-leading 3.24 ERA into the weekend. Hill has tossed seven complete games and has two shutouts to her credit, along with a team-high 59 strikeouts. Raquel Reyes (4-4) tossed a no-hitter against Brown earlier this season and enters the series with a 3.83 ERA in 67 2/3 innings. Kaia McCaul (2-8) expects to see the ball in relief duty and has registered a 4.58 ERA to this point.

Columbia has earned three of the Ivy League's softball Player of the Week honors so far this season. All of Columbia's Ivy accolades this season are listed below.

THE OPPONENT
Princeton (22-14-2, 14-4 Ivy) enters the weekend 1.5 games ahead of both Harvard and Dartmouth (11-4 Ivy) for first place in the league standings. Harvard and Dartmouth will play a three-game set this weekend in Cambridge. The Tigers can only clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title this weekend if they were to win all three games against the Lions.
Princeton has won six Ivy League games in a row, sweeping both Yale and Penn each of the last two weekends. Their last Ivy loss came on April 10 in the series finale at Cornell, 2-1, after the Tigers won the first two games of the series. The only team to win a series against Princeton this season is Dartmouth, taking two of three the weekend of April 2-3 in Princeton.
The Tigers lead the all-time series against the Lions by a margin of 43-19. That being said, it has been Columbia that has gotten the better of the matchup in recent years. The Lions won two of three games at Princeton they last time they met in 2019, with each win coming by a single run, and also won the series with two lopsided wins in New York in 2018. Princeton's last series win in 2017, taking three of four in New Jersey.
