Lacrosse Opens Ivy Play Against #4 Yale Tomorrow at Kraft Field

NEW YORK - The Columbia lacrosse team opens Ivy League play on Saturday afternoon, as the Lions will take on #4 Yale at Kraft Field. The Lions, sitting at 3-2 entering the contest, look to pick up their first Ivy win of the season with a big upset over one of the best teams in the country. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
This will be Columbia's annual Pride Game. The Lions will be wearing special shirts and bracelets,
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia earned its third win of the season on Wednesday, defeating the Marist Red Foxes, 14-11, at Kraft Field.
After the Lions took an early 9-2 lead in the second quarter, Marist battled back to even things up at 11-11 by the start of the fourth quarter. However, that was the last goal the Red Foxes would score and Columbia pulled away to win with three unanswered goals.
Cecelia Messner led the way with four goals and five points in the contest. Anna Becker, and Ellie Taylor each added a hat trick of their own. Michelle Zhai matched Messner for the team lead with five points, as she scored one goal and recorded four assists. Zhai is up to 10 assists on the season through just five games.
On the defensive end, Cordelia Flemming, Maddy Goger and Natalia Raiszadeh were tied for the team lead in ground balls, with three apiece. Falcone led the way with three caused turnovers. Flemming had a team-high five draw controls.
SCOUTING #4 YALE
The Bulldogs head into Saturday's contest with an unblemished 5-0 record. Most recently, Yale defeated Rutgers, 12-6.
The Bulldogs' best win of the season came in their season opener, defeating #4 Michigan, 12-6.
Last year, Yale finished 17-3 overall and undefeated in the Ivy League with seven wins. In a thriller, the Bulldogs went on to beat Penn, 10-9, in overtime to win the Ivy League Championship. Yale won two games in the NCAA Tournament before falling to #3 Syracuse in the quarterfinals. Yale's last loss to an Ivy League team in the regular season was Apr. 22, 2023 against Cornell (14-12).
The Bulldogs are second in the nation in draw control percentage (.701) and third in the nation in scoring defense (4.80). Jenna Collignon leads the team with 19 goals on the season.
