Lions conclude four-game homestand at 6 p.m. at Kraft Field
NEW YORK - The Columbia lacrosse team will conclude its four-game homestand on Wednesday with a final non-conference game against the Wagner Seahawks. First draw is set for 6 p.m. at Robert K. Kraft Field.
INITIATIVES
This will be Columbia's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
The Lions will be playing in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions dropped an Ivy League contest to #15 Penn, 18-7, on Saturday afternoon at Robert K. Kraft Field.
The game got off to a great start, with Anna Becker and Maddie Brogan firing back-to-back goals to give the Lions an early 2-0 lead. However, Penn had a quick answer, using a 3-0 run to take its first lead of the game. Brogan found the back of the net for a second time to tie the game at 3-3, sending the game into the second quarter at a stalemate.
Becker started the second quarter just like she did the first, with a goal to put Columbia back in front. The Quakers would respond with six straight goals, and took control of the game from there.
Brogan and Becker paced the Lions offense with two goals and one assist each. Cordelia Flemming had a team-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Dani Falcone led Columbia with five draw controls. Simone Koryszewski matched her season-high with 14 saves.
SCOUTING WAGNER
The Seahawks enter Wednesday's contest with a 3-5 record, with all three wins coming in NEC play. Wagner is winless in non-conference games this season.
Most recently, the Seahawks defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 16-9, in Staten Island.
Last year, Wagner finished 6-11 with a 5-5 mark in the conference. The Seahawks advanced to the second round of the NEC Tournament, where they lost by one goal to Sacred Heart.
In last year's matchup against Columbia, the Lions emerged with a 16-8 victory. Messner and Falcone each had a hat trick. Becker and Zhai both chipped in a goal and an assist. Falcone added a team-high four draw controls.
Most recently, Sophia Colver and Emily Ryan were named NEC Prime Performers for their showings against LIU and FDU last week. Katie Siverson leads the team with 18 goals on the year.
