Columbia women's lacrosse dropped its first Ivy League road test at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field on Saturday afternoon
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Columbia women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-2 decision at Cornell on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field.
Each of the Lions' two goals came on free position attempts, with senior midfielder Fallon Quinn and sophomore attacker Alexandria Absey netting the goals.
After Cornell (4-2, 2-0 Ivy League) opening up the contest with back-to-back scores, the Lions cut the deficit in half as Quinn scored her fourth goal of the season. From there, the Big Red would go on a 7-0 run before Absey found the back of the net with 10:07 on the clock to make the score 9-2, but the Lions would not score again in the contest.
Columbia (0-6, 0-2 Ivy) used three goalkeepers in the game, with sophomore Ryan Schlageter starting before senior Abby Roberts and first-year Madison Levinson saw time in the cage. It was Levinson's first career appearance for the Light Blue and White, making two saves.
The Big Red limited the Lions to just 14 shots in the game and won 16 of 24 draw controls.
Columbia returns home on Wednesday, March 11, for a 3 p.m. matchup with UConn. The game will be the Lions' last home contest until April 5.
