Baseball Claims 16th Ivy League Championship; Takes Two at Cornell

Lions can clinch Ivy Tournament No. 1 seed with win Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y. — Columbia baseball clinched the Ivy League regular season Championship with a doubleheader sweep at Cornell on Saturday. Columbia took game one, 14-11, before earning a 14-2 victory in game two at Booth Field.

The Lions (22-14, 14-3) have now won seven straight games and crushed eight home runs on Saturday en route to their 16th Ivy League Championship. With a win Sunday, Columbia can lock up the No. 1 seed and host the Ivy League Tournament which is set for May 17-20.

In the second inning of game two, Griffin Palfrey hit Columbia's 73rd home run of the year and set a new program single-season record that was previously broken last season. Columbia and Cornell (13-16, 10-7) wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Lions re-took the lead in the fifth inning on a Palfrey grand slam. It was his fifth of the year and Columbia's fourth of the day to make it 10-6.

Starter Derek Yoo got through five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and earned the win.
